Hi there,
I’ve just come back from my journey, from Roma to dousse France, Provence, Le Thor, Auditorium de Vaucluse, where there was Russell & friends Concert on sat 10/15/05 and I can’t wait till tomorrow to start writing, in order to preserve the great feeling I’m still under and communicate it to you all.
If I were able to, I would have made a sort of storyboard of this journey, to let you fell what I felt and make you see what happened with my own eyes...
Well I’ll try to do my best, come with me in this wonderful adventure and try to pretend to be my eyes, my hand, my heart

Friday night:
gathering in Avignon

1st day: Friday 10/14/05

h 04:00 am: allarm clock and departure.
The alarm clock rings, it’s time to start this wonderful adventure…
The phone rings and the nicest Hilton Rome Airport's (where I work) night duty manager Cristina, wakes me up (I asked her to call me, to be sure to awake…) by saying: “Good morning dear… you look beautiful… ah ah ah” and I reply: “good morning, thank you, I think my eyes look like Willie coyote ones, after a bomb outburst… cracked…”

I’m tired, indeed, I actually stopped working at 00.30 am and slept just a few ours, but I’m too overjoyed to feel it…
I’m supposed to take off from Rome to Paris (Charles De Gaulle Airport) at 7.20 am, then take the shuttle from CDG to Orly airport (Paris), then take another plane to Avignon.
I'm at the airport, ready to leave...
A pretty take off delay apart, the trip from Rome to Paris is ok.

h 09:50 am: traffic jam in Paris.
In Paris there’s a terrible traffic jam, delaying the way to Orly airport… my anxious starts getting higher and higher… “This is important … no telephone calls, no high fives, no champagne… you get to the airport, you make that plane… you got a plane to catch!!!
I arrive in time to check in for the other flight to Avignon… I also have time to smoke a pair of cigarettes (I’m a big smoker… as a well known friends of ours…)

h 02:50 pm: meeting new friends.
Waiting at the gate, I start talking to two nice ladies going to Avignon on holiday, they ask me my reason to Avignon, and I tell them because… and invite them to join us…
While chatting, I notice a pretty red hair girl staring at me, since I mention Cinderella man, I look at her, I see she’s with a young boy…. I realize
"Excuse me" I tell her "Aren’t you the German girl who wrote on Murph’s GIG forum, saying you would have gone to the concert with your son?"
Great she was her, Babette accompanied by her beautiful and nice boy (as she calls him) Lukas

Ok, I’m not alone any more in this fantastic adventure.
We start chatting and sharing all our joy for this trip and also start talking by Russell movies quotes.
I’m very happy I can do this, at home, my friends can’t understand me when in the middle of a speech I say a quote, most of the times they look at me in a blank way… ahhhh, in the end I can be understood by someone who’s speaking my same “language”: Russellish

h 05:00 pm: getting the ticket.
After a safe and funny trip, in the end we arrive in Avignon and we straight storm to the Auditorium de Vaucluse to get our previously purchased tickets.
There we find Madame Martine, the nice and patient Auditorium employer, who kindly faced all my bothering calls from Roma, to know if I got the ticket.
“Madame Martine? … I’m Sabrina” and she replies: “Dragoni, we finally met” we start laughing and I do apologise for bothering her so much in the last few days.
She laughs and forgives me… We ask her how many tickets have been sold, so far, and she answers smiling: "Sold Out!!!"
Wooooahhh... I've got my ticket in my hands!!!
The Auditorium hall is a modern but beautiful place, there's also a lower level small bar reached by a few steps

h 06:00 pm: accomodation.
The Hotel Saint Luis where Babette and I made our reservation is a very beautiful place, far just 2 km. from the auditorium.

h. 06.30 pm: meeting Petra.
After having a refreshing and restoring shower, while chatting in my room, arrives Petra from Germany too… ok the group is enlarging…. Great.

Friday 14 evening:

GATHERING AT WOOLLOOMOOLOO RESTATURANT IN AVIGNON:

It seems to be Xmas...

Here we are, at the Woolloomooloo Restaurant in Avignon, ready for this previous private night with "The girls". Many people coming from all over the world, (France, Spain, Sweden, Germany, Portugal, Wales, U.K., U.S.A. etc. forgive me if I'm forgetting someone) in occasion of this EVENT are about to meet each other.
The idea to have dinner all together is by Carol from Florida, a nicest blond lady posting on PERCH, who has arranged this gathering from USA and prepared a lot of beautiful surprises for all of us: a concert badge, , where we put our name and where we're from, luggage badge, (front and back), beautiful 2006 calendars, with any sort of Russell pictures, on which she personally worked on Thank you Carol!!!
Carol is not the only one who have prepared surprised and pretty gifts to share, many of us did the same and it seems to be Xmas, with a pretty but huge difference, the most of us have never met before, and this is great!!!

These are Russell people, unknown persons from all over the world, ready to meet each other as old friends, sharing smiles, hugs and even help if it's necessary. I'm very honoured to be part of them and I start feeling all the emotion I've hidden in these last few days even to my self, too busy to set this journey.

We are having a lot of fun and a very good meal.
The French girls are very nice and help us with the language. Everybody's tired but happy.
Babette's son Lukas , our mascotte after the dinner goes to sleep on a small sofa, he's exhausted, but he's behaving as a big boy, not a kid... great guy!!!

After so much fun, we're about to go back to the hotel, Avignon by night is beautiful place, very old and antique, (early middle age), but we're too tired to go in around, even if the bravest of our do.

Tomorrow will be the Great Day, I'm looking forward...

2nd day...

Saturday 10/15/05:

THE PRODIGAL GREAT DAY... ARRIVES

I slept very well last night, so tired I was

h. 08:30 am:
We get up early and after a very good breakfast we decide to have a pic-nic at the Auditorium apple wood in order to be on line very soon.
We're over excited...

h. 09:00 am: pic-nic shopping in Le Thor.
We go to Le Thor by Petra's rented car and laugh a lot on our total no sense of direction, I'm the worst, I even got lost in my own borrow supermarket, but fortunately Petra is a fox in comparison to us, so we can reach our aim safely.
Le Thor is a beautiful and ancient small town and we get some French cheese, brie, fruits, desserts, and a superb French bred... No diet today!!!

Crossing a bridge over a quite river I notice a seagull or was it the famous...
DUCK?

On the walls of a street leading us to the open market, there're some posters of the concert, and Petra, after asking permission to a shop by one of it, gets her prize!!!
Nice small tour, we're having a good time

h. 11:45 am: time to go.
Time to go to the Auditorium! Let's dress up and go. The four of us have just met yesterday, but we seem to be already a team. The sooner we arrive, the better seats we can reach.

h. 12:00 pm: we are here!!!
We are at the Auditorium now. But a few people taking their tickets and going away, there's none. We're the first. We got it!!!
After all... Surprise's on our side!!!
The weather is warm bur really cloudy: "God helps the Angels" says Babette. It's not raining, so far.

h. 12:30 pm: playing hide and seek with Russell's voice.
We're not hungry, but we start eating, 'cause we're nervous...
Suddenly from far inside the building comes a voice singing... Raewyn.
I freeze and tell the girls: " Listen, shhh, he's making the sound check"
Then we send Lukas to go reconnoitring... and we stay behind...
Amazing, try to visualize the scene: three pretty grown up girls behind a 9 years old boy, looking like if they're playing hide and seek...
Petra, the bravest of us, follows Lukas and goes straight towards the back stage
... false alarm... it was a cd, not him!

h. 01:00 pm: body guards.
The security staff arrives, many tall and big people (Mr. Crowe body guards) and their boss, a medium high man.
We're still sitting at the picnic table, they politely but not friendly (it's their job) salute us and wish us a good meal.
By saluting them back we invite them to join us, if they're by chance hungry, they kindly refuse but can see I hope (3 grown up girls and a boy) we're not terrorists!!!

h. 02:10 am: God helps Angels.
"God helps Angels"... After eating and playing hide and seek it starts raining.. a Cape Horn storm, indeed... Babette's dearest Capt. Lucky Jack would be required now... Ops, I'm becoming too Homeric... well it starts raining a lot, so we could find a good shelter under the little porch leading to the Auditorium main entrance and begins the line... we're the first!!!
While we're at the beginning of our long wait, my mum calls me, I told her to phone me more or less "constantly", 'cause the phone ring I chose for her is really matching... I've set, indeed, all my dearest people phone ring with the quotes of my favourite movies, for instance, my cousin Betsy's phone ring is or my sms sound is ... pretty cool when you're in the middle of the post office...
Well, at the end of this short journey, everybody knows who was calling me and competes in answering to "Mama"...

h. 02:30 pm: sound-check.
Alan Doyle, Dean Cochran and Dave Kelly arrive for the sound check. Alan Doyle waves, Dean and Dave come to us, we have a little chat about the weather and Babette and Lukas get their autographs.
They're very nice and tell us our big man will soon arrive.

h. 04:30 pm: our BIG MAN arrives.
In the end, our big man arrives, there's still a little bunch of us, we go towards the back stage to see him and he nicely tells Babette he's really sorry he can't stop and talk to us, but he's terribly late for the sound check.
I arrive a little bit later, I can only see him from pretty far, he's wearing the blue trainer and the Maple Leaf Garden cap.

He waves me, smiles to me and goes inside.
This is the first time I can see him live...
It's raining, I keep standing under the rain without feeling it, with a funny look on my face, wearing a silly smile and a dreaming expression...
In the end... it's all true: 1 year and 8 months of movies, pictures, articles, etc. and now it's true...
I still can't believe it... All the emotion I haven't seemed to feel in the last few days, suddenly comes out, overflows me and "thunders like a storm" Then... silence... but the soft rain ticking... I'm pretty touched

h. 05:00 pm: Carol and the French girls.
Carol arrives, she's very elegant and very tall, wearing beautiful high hills. She gives people who weren't last night at the gathering in Avignon, some other Russell calendars and concert badges.
Also our French and German girls arrive, Viviane, Kathy etc.; they look nice and the "temperature" gets higher... Time is approaching...

h. 05:45 pm: the line.
The line is becoming longer and longer. The Auditorium's about to close the main entrance, to re-open it at 07.00 pm, to let us in. We're waiting "again and again and again"

1st special thanks to the body guards:
We've been waiting for a long time, I can see there's a pretty but tired lady from Boston, I call the body guard boss, explaining him the situation and asking him if it's possible to have a chair for the lady. He does more, very nicely he allows her to get in and sit in the hall till the show time... Great guy!!! Thank you! You and all the other body guards did a great job and were very nice to us.

h. 06:00 pm: closing the main entrance
An Auditorium employer comes and close the main entrance door and, since there's a little lobby between the main entrance and another door on the porch where we are, and where Lukas has already took a little nap, we decide to close it too, to avoid being too packed and can breathe... time is getting closer and closer and the "mob" starts pushing...

h. 07:00 / 07:30 pm: last effort
We're all exhausted but over-joy and excited to feel it. The main door is supposed to open at 07:00 pm, but unfortunately there's a delay at the sound-check and our golden boy Lukas is becoming nervous. He's behaving as a grow-up guy, but now... we're all tired... Anyway we stay together, we survive...

h. 07:30 pm: the door opens
The same lady who closed the door at 06:00 pm is about to open it again. She comes towards us wearing a... terrified, mortified petrified, stupified by... us look on her face, afraid to be swept away by the crowd. Lukas, Babette, Petra and I are the first and Babette starts yelling: "Hold the line, stay behind me"... "Don't worry madame, we're not going to push"
As the main door opens, my ticket is checked and, at last, I can enter the Auditorium and go straight to the impair entrance.
The theatre is a beautiful one, as Mr. Crowe said at Murphs's: "600 seats only. It is relatively new, but the angle of the seats is high in the roman theatre tradition"
Purple comfortable chairs in long rows and two few chair side rows.
The stage is at the bottom of the front row - divided into two sections - the front one is set with the whole gear for the first supporting band, the back one is concealed by a long black material panel.
The seats of the three front rows are reserved and some people're already there.
I get my seat in the middle of the fourth row and take other three seats for my new friends.

We're here, at last!!!
The theatre begins to fill up quickly.
Mrs. Danielle Spencer-Crowe arrives and takes her seat in the second row. She looks beautiful as usual, wearing blue jeans, high hills and a pretty floreal blouse, that leaves her shoulders naked. She looks as exactly as in photo: beautiful and happy.
Lukas takes the cover of one of her cd and goes towards her, asking for an autograph. She nicely and warmly smiles at him, look at his concert badge to know his name, then asks him his name, He answers: "Lukas, I like your music very much", she thanks him and writes a dedication on the cd cover.

When lights go down...
The lights are about to go down, and a lady comes to me, saying she's one of the two ladies I met at Orly airport on our way to Avignon... They got the tickets, they're here too... Great, the more we are the better we stay!!!
The theatre is very warm, and there's a lot of smoke. Babette says it's because of the stage smoke device, I say I think it's because of Russell's sigs at the sound-check...
Lights go down... everybody's thrilled, the theatre is overflowing with people, that keep getting in... We can breath a happening atmosphere, we can touch it.

Supporting bands: Quartet de Luberon
The first French supporting rock-jazz cover band enters the stage and we welcome them by a warm applause.
They play for about 20 min. - 1/2 h performing some songs by Jacques Dutronc and Nino Ferrer.

The French nightingale:
Then arrives a young French singer and author, who sings three self written songs. SHE'S ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!! A delicate voice and a marvellous, very expressive, but intimate performing ability. I love her voice and her way of playing guitar too. She looks pretty shy, but this sincere way of showing off, inspires in the audience interest and approval. She's transmitting feelings to all of us, even if some of us cannot understand the lyrics... this is art!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
I do apologise 'cause I was too excited to memorize her name. As long as I call the Auditorium to know it and put it here, let's call her: "The French nightingale"

Blades of hades... an Aussie Rap-hip hop band :
The service sets the stage for the next band: a square table, rounded by three chairs, playing cards on it...
Two guys and a beautiful blond young girl arrive, black dressed, wearing each a different odd black suit, a black and white blouse under and three different hats. The visual impact is amazing.
They're really good at their show. At first they play an only drum song, imitating by their own voices a drum set.
Then they rap and sing on tracks 3 more songs.
I honestly can tell you, I can't understand the lyrics very well... Aussie rap... but their whole show is amazing. The scene is a late at night cards game. Congratulations!!!
And now...

The very Concert

_

Well... all our efforts, tiredness, delay and so on will soon be at an end... highness... ops... will be soon rewarded.

We see the service employers setting the stage for the imminent show, there's a sort of strange silence amongst us... a silence full of wait...

The black panel, concealing the back part of the stage is taken away... still silence... Lights change... first chords of "Weather with you"... 800 people voices blend as one in a huge roar, that rises, rises up like... like a storm as if we were the thunder god himself...

All the band members enter the stage:
Billy-Dean Cochran (guit. – Tofog), Dave Kelly (drums - Tofog), Stewart Kirwan (trumpet - Tofog), Stuart Hunter (Silverchair), Bones Hillman (bass -Midnightoil) and Alan Doyle, co-author of MHMH (guit., vocals and backing vocals, from the Canadian band Great big sea)
welcome by our big applause and scream.

They’re very elegant in their dark suits.
All these members are great musicians, a mixture of classic studies, rock and blues background. The contribution they give the present band is the result of different musical experiences that gives the band a unique and very personal style. Besides, they’re very well blended in this experience and we’ll see they’re having a lot of fun playing at the concert; and this is a most important thing: if the musician is enjoying his/herself, the audience can feel it and enjoy too;
after all, instruments, or even the voice itself are “just” tools to communicate feelings… and this band, from the professional point of view is great, but not only… they also are naturally skilled to transmit feelings… Congratulations!!!

Now our Great Man enters the stage… the applause gets higher and higher…
I do apologize if sometimes, from now on I won’t be able to follow a chronologic order, but my mind, heart and all my self were carried by a multitude of feelings I’m still under, when I think of the concert… please forgive me…

Well… our great man enters the stage I was saying and…

Everything else fades out ...800 people and more eyes are all aimed at him.
His great presence and charisma fill up the whole theatre, dazzling it… It’s like the dawn… Our sun has arrived.

He looks gorgeous, very elegant in his soft white lined black suit, black silk shirt, beautiful and very elegant round point black shoes, a central parting (as "One good year" shooting requires), his natural hair colour, medium cut in front and short cut on the nape of his neck and his typical beard.
He gently smiles at us and in a perfect French says: “Bonne soir, madames et monssieur” (sorry for my French)
Then he keeps in English, promising he’ll speak slowly and not in Aussie, and teasing Alan by saying Alan is going to translate his words from English into French, then Alan actually translates from English into English…. (the audience laughs a lot) and from English into a French Quebec slang…

The atmosphere is happy, we’re all eager to listen to the first song, but at the same time, we’re tasting every single moment, hoping we could stop the time and make it endless…

While Russell was entering the stage, Mrs. Danielle, who went out for a bit before, was coming back to her seat, and as he saw her, he gave her a full of love and intense glance (lucky chance to sit so close to the stage)… That glance would heat a planet for a whole year… “This is great” I thought. In Italy we have a way of saying: “Love, Beauty and money are three things that cannot be concealed”
He’s a terrific professional, each field he touches and I was absolutely sure he was going to give the performance of his life, but I think we also love, respect and admire him, because he seems he never “lies”, he’s the way he is, a professional, a husband, a father and a man completely fell in love with his beautiful wife: "Gentlemen… meet a Man!!!"
When I think of the few but meaningful glance he gave her, I still feel touched... Eyes talk...

Looking at the music stand in front of him, I think it’s not very nice to putting it there at a live concert, besides he’s the author of the lyrics and… an Oscar winning actor, got used to learning skirmish of words and quotes by heart...
As he sees it, he disappointedly moves it back and…

THE WEIGHT OF A MAN
Wonderful beginning, Russell is at most of his vocal ability, the song is beautiful, great job by Alan for the music and arrangement, deep and felt lyrics, sang with a hint of emotion we can all feel and share.

Big hand to the sound engineer (the one who also recorded MHMH album). The sound was excellent. Perfectly managed, terrific stereo effect and pan pot, each instrument was clear and perfectly melt with the others. Russell’s voice was well melt with the instruments too, as rock concert tradition requires.
There was a terrible moment during the concert, when Russell had some problems with his auricular, he couldn’t hear his own voice, the drum and Mr. Alan’s guitar anymore, and it’s a very problem. In this way you can only shout and not sing, forcing your voice and risking to sing out of tune, but the excellent stage sound engineer, Tony Wall (who also recorded the album) managed the situation in a fast, discreet and very good way, quickly changing the auricular set, keeping calm Mr. Crowe, who was becoming a bit nervous… Normal reaction when you find yourself in a situation like that, the audience in front of you, you got to make a great show, without listening anything but “chhhhhhh” (he actually told us on the microphone).

The concert song list

concert list

(thanks Babette for fast scan and delivery) is amazing, they play the whole MHMH album, some Tofog songs, and the last new born: Testify.

Before singing HOW DID WE GET FROM SAYING I LOVE YOU there were some people waiting at the entrance of the hall, close to the stage, Russell friendly tells them to get in and take seat somewhere up on the left, where there're some empty reserved seats. He also teases with one of a guy from US and shakes his hand.

During the concert there're some quotes jumping on my mind I want to shout, but, unless singing with all of us, my mouth is shut.
"Russell, Russell the merciful" I' thinking now

Sir Ridley Scott, Mr. Branko Lustic and Mrs. Giannina Facio arrive a bit late and take their seat up on the left at the reserved seats too (ahhh, they were for them).
As Russell sees Sir R. Scott, asks us to cheer him, (the audience replies very warmly) and also kids with us by saying if we don't mind if they start the concert from the beginning again... Why not?

I'm stunned... In my movie-mania (always watching movies and reading books on directing and cinema) Sir R. Scott is on of my favourite myths (I also dreamt once I was talking to him about a shot...nuts).
I think he's a genius, a terrific story teller, a pure director, leading us to the heart of the movie situations by a deep taste and an accurate but simply as result way of showing pure images... Great!!!

Well... he's simply there now...before my eyes, with his sweet and ironic look on his face.
I'd like to shout "Great Ridley" but I decide against doing it, 'cause I know he's a very "shy boy", hating to be at the centre of the spot-light, I don't want to embarrass him.

LAND OF THE SECOND CHANCE
Russell introduces it telling us a bit of the story behind it and start singing...
The band is rocking, Russell's perspiring and moving as a perfect rock star. We're all dancing and rocking even if we sit...pretty difficult. I'd like to stand up and dance but everybody's sitting...arrrgh

MIKEY, SWEPT AWAY BAYOU (song by TOFOG), WORST IN THE WORD
the audience is getting warmer and warmer, we're all involved, then...

RAEWYN
Magic moment... Russell performs it in a very intimate and felt way. At "I love you more, thanks to my Charlie Crowe" He gives Danielle another meaningful and breathless glance, heating all our hearts again, and again, and again.
Petra rises her cig-lighter and lights it up. I follow her. It seems we're at Woodstock!!!

MR HARRIS
Another touching moment, profound and felt lyrics.

WHAT YOU WANT ME TO FORGET,
THINGS ARE GONNA CHANGE,
MEMORIAL DAY
(Tofog songs)
Amazing. There're some people, coming from Spain, Usa, etc. who were at Texas concert, they jump and scream. The 'temperature' is getting higher and higher.

ONE GOOD YEAR
The notes flow as honey and Russell's warm voice pervades us all.
Petra and I rise again our cig-lighters. At this moment Russell's singing keeping his eyes closed. As he opens them, he seems to be looking at my direction.

As Babette says in her report at Murph's, while performing, he doesn't look in around, he seems to aim directly at you. A very linked way to be in touch with the audience.

TESTIFY (the new born)
Russell introduces it being auto-ironic on his past intercourse with the justice in NYC and tells us about a project he and Alan Doyle had about making a video-clip of this song. They were thinking to set it in a crowded amphitheatre, but it'd have been pretty expensive to hire 600-700 people, then Alan gave Russell a good hint: "Why don't you give a concert, mate? So we can have so many people for free, providing that you tell them they're paying and not being paid to make the video-clip..."
Everybody laughs.

Russell tells us to as rise and wave our hands at a certain point of the song as he does and to do it very well, otherwise we have to re-shoot it "ten more f....ing times!"

This a rock and a very good one song.
We all rise, at last... and start dancing and rocking... The audience... the band, we're at the climax of this wonderful happening. We make a very good job at rising and waving our hands.
There're three cameras shooting. We're all hoping the dvd to be released. After the concert I talked to the sound engineer, he told me the Concert in Le Thor was the best of the three ones they made from the audience receptivity point of view...Well a dvd is required I think!!!

Russell tells us they have a song list and it's about ending, but since they're good guys and are going to dance for us all night long...

MY HAND MY HEART
Russell goes to the back stage and then comes back, smoking a cig and drinking a cold beer.
At the "Cheers" moment he rises his glass and... magic moment for all of us. I think everybody did the same.
As far as concerning me, because of a strange light effect and my central seat I have this 'image-vision':
as in one of the last deleted scenes of ABM, the Nobel speech, when he says : "you're all my reasons" all the audience but Alicia fades out at once... Well at the same time Russell rises his hand with the beer, I do the same with my empty hand, says "Cheers" too and suddenly... everything else fades out, but him (I've never used drugs nor alcohol and I never will... power of movies and imagination... nuts again)

Alan Doyle gently asks us to sit and sings a beautiful Quebec song, guitar and voice. He's terrific!

TESTIFY re-shoot
Have we done a wrong job at waweing?
Russell goes inside the back stage and comes back again... transformed:
Armani black jeans, round point black boots, a French football team t-shirt and its scarf too he rises and waves it. The French audience goes crazy.
Running, he reaches the back of the centre of the stage, turn his back on us and strips it off, only remaining in his famous black concert shirt...
We all do apologize to Danielle... There's a huge roar invading the hall.
We rise again and the party's on again.

Everybody's going crazy, Russell and the whole band are performing Testify even better than before.

As we can read in many press article, "Russell's main daily job" is to be the fantastic talented actor he is... he's a terrific showman too: he and the band as involve us as at a very rock happening!!! Congratulations!!!
It's amazing to see everybody (even ladies, grown up girls and gentlemen) dancing, going crazy.
Nobody can resist the power of such a good and well performed music, lyrics, and this force of nature on the stage, as performing as a brilliant rock star.
He also teases himself and us turning his back on us again and waddling _ or taping from a foot to the other.
Live, he's even more charismatic than on the silver screen.

The concert's ending. We're all perspired, exhausted but happy... happy!!!

As the hall lights rise again and the concert's over we start going out, but stop for a little while at the stage passage, and talk to Dean, who comes out again, he's very nice to us and we have a little chat.
After a bit, the security kindly asks us to go out... sigh sob!!!

What a great concert... what a great experience!!!
THANK YOU ALL!!!
WHEN THE NEXT CONCERT?!?!?!?!
We'll be there, all of us and even more!!!

After the concert I have a little chat with the band and the sound engineer who tells me, the band is going to shoot THE WEIGHT OF A MAN video, directed by Russell (see at MURPH'S Wheight of a Man video) at the Colosseum in Niemes. We have a lot of fun when I reply: "Colosseum in Niemes? Why don't you come to shoot it in my own town, next time, we also have a pretty Colosseum... the real one!!!"

It's about 03:00 am, close to Russell's car there's still a bunch of aficionados, waiting for him.
He goes out of the Auditorium accompanied by Danielle, they're going to the car but, as he sees the fans group, says something to the security, talks a bit to Dani, he seems to gently apologizes for attending his last "duty" and leave her for a little more while... He kisses her and looks at her as if they were going to be apart for a month... and smiling goes to the fans... Kind till the end... he's very nice to his beloved wife and also he's rewarding his aficionados, paying a due of respect towards their faithfulness and long wait, by spending a little while talking, signing autographs and letting people taking pictures...
Babette e Lukas are the first ones and have the autograph (thanks Babette)

reflections and all this what for? special thanks
To all the people who weren't at this event Last but not least: open letter to Russell

h.10:00 am: wake up
We wake up at 10:00 am, have our breakfast and ready to go back home.
We're still thrilled and excited for last night but pretty sad...it's over and we're about to separate from each other.
Viviane, Kathy, Cicile and the other French girls arrive at the hotel. We take some photos and say good bye.
Lots of warm hugs and tears. We don't get bored to repeat: "Let's do it again, let's put the clock back at Friday morning again...

h. 12:15 pm: at the Auditorium again
Petra kindly drives Babette, Lukas and me to Avignon Airport.
We have a little stop at the Auditorium again, just to say good bye and try to find and feel some of the magic of yesterday again...
The weather is fine and it's a very sunny day: "Yesterday it was raining 'cause we all had our sun here..."
The nice Madame Rosy by Auditorium de Vaucluse let us take 2 concert posters, son even Babette and I can have ours too, and let us in the auditorium to take some pictures.
There's a hint of melancholy in us and we're already collecting memories.

h. 12:40 pm: Avignon Airport... Bye Bye Petra
Bye Bye sweet Petra. I'll never forget you, nice, pretty, funny cig-smoker mate...
At the airport we meet the Swedish girl and go to Paris, Orly then to Charles De Gaulle Airport together: The small trip is quite happy, remembering last night: Sometimes Babette and I open the concert posters and laugh.

h. 02:30 pm: Charles De Gaulle Airport
I'm the first to leave. Babette, Lukas and the Swedish girl have a lot of patience with me, going in and out of the airport to have my cigs.
They accompany me to the gate, Lukas embraces me as an old auntie... I'll be missing you too, dear.
Time to say good-bye... We're at my gate.
warm hugs and tears again. I check in and I'm on my way to the plane...
I turn my head back, open the concert poster again... I waddle a bit as Russell did last night on the stage... make the strength and honour gesture and go... I still can hear our last laughter...

h. 09:30 pm: home again
I land in Roma again, my old, beloved home town town. Happy to see you again, even after such a small time we've been apart.
You have different colours from the Provence beautiful ones I still can keep into my eyes... My mind is blending yours with hers...
Tomorrow evening I'll be back to work again and I know I'll be singing sometimes wearing a melancholy, funny and dreaming look on my face.

The treasure I brought at home from this experience

Sometimes when we travel on vacation or we have some strong experience like this one, we don't exactly realize what it really means to us at the very moment we're living it. Back home, as time goes by, the memories come out one by one and we get the deep value inside our past experience.
What I brought at home from this experience as a tresure is mainly a "sense of sharing".
Of course, meeting Mr. Crowe for the first time and being at this great live concert-event too was terrific. But the best memories I'll be jealously keeping in my heart, will always be the deep and beautiful multiple of feelings I could have had the chance to be in, meeting an shearing this adventure with all these different people, coming many corners of this world for this event.
All their faces, glances, laughter are stick to my mind and my soul.
The preparation days before the concert, the mails we shared, information etc... everything.
We behaved as a consolidated team, we were a team. We're all grown up girls, not behaving as teenagers, but we had fun in a very true, simple and even auto-ironic way. "Semel in anno licet insenire" (latin way of saying: "once a year going crazy is allowed"). There's still a sane way to have fun and we did it!!!

...And all this what for?

For a person we all love, respect and admire? Hmmm... not enough, I think.
Well, he's hansom and so on, this is the frame... And what a good frame...
He 's one of the most brilliant, deep and talented actors of all the times... not still enough, very good showman, polyhedral, versatile and charismatic personality, not enough to push all these people to gather at Le Thor.

My personal opinion is we all love him 'cause we can feel he's true. He shows the parts of his temperament that can be shown just the way they are.
He's a sane man, a man of principles, a man of sane and good feelings and this can be felt and is one of the main reasons of the real nature of his strength.

There was a time when movies and rock stars were prevented by their production firms from revealing they got married, because of a strange fear of sales decrease. Ok, that time's gone. But sometimes it's still a risk not to behave in this way.

We all love this new Russell's version (marriage, fatherhood), 'cause we feel it's real, not an advertising manoeuvre. Being at this event everybody can say: "This is REAL"
Good and sane feelings attract good and sane people: no drugs nor bad behaviour, only having a sane and happy fun!!!

Special thanks...

To the nice security and the kind bodyguards
To all the Auditorium de Vaucluse staff , in particular Madame Martine and Madame Rosy.
To all the people kindness in Provence and France.
To The band, you made a great job: Congratulations!!!
To the sound engineer, all concert cast and crew for their professionality.
To Mrs. Murph for continously updating her site, also putting forum to let us meet and organize.
To dousse Viviane, Cecile (very special thanks, you know why...), Kathy, sweet Carol, the two Spanish and the very nice Swedish girls, great Petra (perfect main entrance guard), energic Babette and lovely Lukas...
To all the people I'm forgetting now but as I switch off my pc will come to my mind...
To you all...I'll be always keeping your smile inside of me...

THANK YOU ALL!!!

Sometimes, at present , I go out for a walk, listening to the song list and remembering of all the beautiful moments we shared there... the corners of my lips automatically rise... I still have the whole journey and all these people flowing into my eyes as a movie sequence...

To all the people who weren't at this event:

I tried to do my best making this long and detailed report.
On purpose I did it as a 'script', to make you feel the magic of this experience...as if you all were there with us... after all... you were.
Thank you!!!

Last but not least...

Dearest Mr. Crowe,
thank you so much for giving all of us this opportunity and honour to meet each other, share this experience and be a part of this event.
Thank you for existing and make us feel all these variety of multiple emotions, through your art, way of performing and writing at most of your highest talent and way of being. We're all very proud of you!!!
We'd really pleased if there were another concert soon, very soon...please.... We're all eager and looking forward... We'll be there!!! All of us and more...

I wish you all the best for everything, and may all your dreams come true...
God bless you, your talent, profession, beautiful wife, lovely son and family, and always kept it as sane and close as it is now.

Thank you.

RUSSELL'S PRIVATE AFTER PARTY REPORT
...and I met him...
When I returned from Le Thor, I decide against publishing this after party report, because I thought it wasn't nice at that moment, but now, after so much time, I think there's nothing bad in sharing my little experience with you all, thus... here you are... my report...

After the concert, Babette, Lukas, Petra and I started waiting for Russell close to his car. There were some gates

and the security (his nice, tall and coloured body guards we got used to seeing on many of his pictures) standing and preventing people from going to much further to the back stage
While waiting and talking still under the feeling of this great concert I noticed that 2 beautiful (I think French) girls after talking to one of the body guard, went towards another direction, the main entrance
I told my friends I was sure he wasn't coming out from there and that I was going to get some information at the front door.

When I arrived there, there were some of our French girls we kept in touch with through Murphs’s forum, Viviane, Cecile, etc. telling me there was a private after party in there.

Cecile told me: "Why don't you try? you're well dressed, try" Beyond working, I'm usually pretty shy, if it weren't for her, I would have never tried..

Then I went to the main door (very well known door, since we've had been there since the noon) and I could notice that there were two black panels between the main door and the entrance, preventing from the inside sight. I stood there and a coloured "mountain" got out of the main entrance and kindly asked me if he could have helped me

Then I found the courage and asked him if I were allowed to enter, he kindly answered that it was impossible, cause I wasn't allowed, unless I had the pass; it was Russell's private after party and there might be trouble with the body guards boss if he had allowed me to get in.

So I thank him and told him I had much respect for him, 'cause he was working, (I meant it) I saw him working since 1.00 pm, and I reminded him I was one of the girls having picnic there since 12.00 pm he replied he was tired and became even more nicer, he was also sorry because he couldn't allow me to get inside. While we were talking a well dressed French girl came to us too and stood. The body guard's boss, then, got out and told me the same thing.

He recognized me to be the girls who arrived before the bodyguards and also recognized me to be the girl that at 5.00 pm called him and asked him for a chair for a pretty lady from Boston, who had been standing for so long, and that was feeling very tired. (the body guard's boss was really nice to us, he even allowed the lady from Boston to enter the auditorium and seat inside the hall since 5.00 to the beginning of the concert).

Well, let's go back to what I was saying about...

I replied the body guard boss I was respecting his job I knew he was tired and that I was just trying, we had been spending a bit time chatting, then.My face wasn't hiding my sorrow, but I don't know why, I wasn't moving or going away, I was just standing at the main door with a pretty sad looking on my face, then for a long and endless moment I was standing and the big body guard was standing too and staring at me. There was no sound nor noise... just silence.

Then the body guard boss went inside.

The French girl went away, with a sad look on her beautiful face. The body guard boss came out again and discretely gave me two passes, by saying: "enter, don't tell anyone"

I turned back and discretely called the other girl, gave her the pass and entered the private after party.

Now, imagine the Beheethoven 5th symphony as soundtrack of the moment TA TA TA TAN

I was inside

that was great, but I had to behave in a “hidden way”, cause I wasn’t allowed, and I didn’t want to cause trouble to the nicest Russell’s security who let me in, so….My heart was beating as a kick drum and I was in a sort of close into myself posture, to prevent people from hearing it

Well, I took out my "periscope" and started looking for him Let’s say that I was behaving as a very peculiar private after part 'Phasmid'
He wasn’t there, yet.
Ok let’s go in around, I told my self.

There was a very good small band playing for the party, composed by a contrabass, sax and voice, they very good, many people dancing, many people drinking beer at the bar.

I met Sir Ridley Scott’s assistant, nice guy and we spent some time talking about cinema and music. I told him Sir Ridley Scott is one of my favourite directors.

I was really sorry Sir Ridley Scott wasn’t at the party, but we all know he’s a shy boy. I would have been pleased and honoured to meet him, too. He’s a myth to me. I love cinema, direction most, I read a lot of book on directing, my secret wish is to be a director, I think they are genius, Sir Ridley Scott, Mr. Ron Howard etc. rule!!!

I also met all the band members, one by one, very nice guys, we talked about music, and the sound engineer Tony Wall  (the one who also recorded MHMH), who I congratulated with because of the good job for the concert, was really nice to me; there was a terrible moment during the concert, when Russell had some problems with the auricular, he couldn’t hear his own voice, the drum and Mr. Alan’s guitar anymore, and I know it’s a very problem. In this way you can only shout and not sing, forcing your voice and risking to sing out of tune, but the great sound engineer managed the situation in a fast , discreet and very good way, keeping calm Russell, who was becoming nervous...
Normal reaction when you find yourself in a situation like that, the audience in front of you, you got to make a great show, without listening anything but chhhhhhh (he publicly told us at the concert, indeed)

While I was meeting all these people, I was keeping to seek him

In the end he entered the party from the back stage door, holding his beautiful wife Danielle’s hand. They were too beautiful together. There’s a sort of unique complicity between the two of them that warms the heart.

Sure it’s not so easy to be married to a public man like Russell, and to face it day by day, but the way he looks at her is so strong deep and linked… great.

He’s a gentleman, after each time he met a girl or a lady at the party, he went to his wife and kissed her, on her neck, or her chick, etc. I could feel it wasn’t a performance, it was felt and enormously respectful to her Just to say using a no words language: I belong to her, I’m proud of it, I won’t conceal it Great gentleman.

From the other side, we must say that his beautiful wife Danielle’s behaviour is perfect, calm, relaxed, discreet, and each glance she gave him is as she’s meeting him for the first time. They both look like they’re still on an endless honey moon!!!

Isn’t that a wonderful miracle?!?!?!

Well… when he entered the party, my heart started beating faster and faster.

Many times some people in Rome have asked me, what I wanted to do if I had the chance to meet him, and I always answered the same thing: I just wanted to introduce myself, shake his hand, congratulate for the great actor and human being he is, and thank him to exist and let us feel all the wonderful emotion we have from his performances. No autographs, (I don’t believe in autographs, a signature from someone who doesn’t know you, I don’t blame who asks for, everybody has to follow his/her nature, and mine doesn’t suit asking for autographs) Usually they don’t believe me.

Now arrives the funny part of the story...

I’m a tea total, I always drink water, I cannot even digest alcohol…

Well, to gather the courage, overcome my shyness, to go and choose the best moment (not when he was talking to people, it would have been really unfair and rude), to do what I’ve been longing to for a long time, to go and meet him

I DRANK 4 BEERS!!!

One moment after the other, my stomach was crawling, but I wasn’t feeling the alcohol effects, cause there was too much adrenaline in me, then I was metabolizing it at once

1st beer:
He passed close to me, and I told him: Great job, sir and he replied: Thank you madam and I suddenly felt as if I were Proximo, after giving Maximus his armour, because while he answered to me he shook his head from high to below, as he did to thank Proximo in that scene

2nd beer:
nothing happened but my stomach’s starting crawling no trace of courage, yet

Between 2nd and 3rd beer:

I met some of the people I told you before about, I went in around, trying to find the courage, then the bassist of the band came and took my hand by saying: come with me Oh my goodness I thought: What does he want from me?

Having been performing as a professional singer for more than 18 years, I’m used to dealing with men and I know how to keep them far from me, I used to be nice obviously even after the show, smile, have a little chat if strictly necessary and then I vanished.

But in this case, it was harder. I was in another country, talking to people with a different mentality, in the middle of a private party I hadn’t been invited to, amongst beautiful girls, some serious some less well pretty difficult

Anyway I just managed as when I work…. Be nice, smile but… behave as you always can.

Well, the bassist took me to dance. At the end of the dance, he thank me in a 18 century way, and I replied as well it was fun , and this guy was really nice, I had a lot of fun…

Almost 3rd beer:
I was standing sideways at the bar

with my right hand on it, suddenly I saw from behind my back man's left hand, entering and about to lay on it too..ehm, ehm
I recognized it at once, platinum wedding ring and...
As if my right hand had its own brain, I saw it starting to move towards this left hand.
I stopped 'her' at 2 cm far from his by raising 'her' and saying to the bartender: "A beer please" then I moved back reproaching me "Are you crazy or what? Nuts" "Semel in anno licet insenire (latin way of saying: "once in a year we’re allowed to get insane) but this wasn’t the right moment of doing at all.
Anyway I also managed this situation... ah ah ah

After 4th beer:
My stomach was burning and I could realize the party was about to be at an end... Highness ops...

He wasn’t talking to anyone at that very moment and passing by alone, going down the little stairs

leading to the bar, then I told my self: "now or never, live or day" strength and honour".

I went towards him and:
Sabry: "excuse me, Sir"
Russell: "Yes Ma'm?"
Sabry: "I don’t want to bother you, My name is Sabrina, pleased to meet you"
Russell: "nice to meet you too, M'am' "
And we shook our hands, he has got a very big hand and a very strong and secure shake
Sabry: "I just came here on purpose and wanted to tell you that I admire you most as a brilliant professional, deep actor, most talented, and a great person, we’re all very proud of you and that I came here on purpose for your concert "
(in that moment I wanted to say I’m very proud of you, but I decided against doing it)
Russell: "Thank you ma’m, where are you from?
Sabry: "Roma - Italy "
Russell: "Ah Roma (with a perfect Italian r) Beautiful!"
Sabry: "Indeed, you know? I was born and raced close to Coliseum, and you can imagine how much proud I am to have the chance to tell you"
Russell: "Thank you so much ma’m"
Sabry: "Thanks to you, Sir, bye bye"

While all this small chat we have had, we kept shaking our hands, I wasn’t grabbing nor keeping his, and I could feel he wasn’t avoiding the shake, obviously in a polite, kind, clear and clean way.
He’s got a very strong shake and very big hands.
We’ve been talking for 30 sec? But all his attention was for me, he didn’t behave like a common movie star, talking to you, while waving or looking at someone else. He’ a very polite and nice gentleman.I wanted to tell him so many other things, but I didn’t, cause I didn’t want to bother him.

After we met, he went to his wife Danielle and kissed her... great!!!!! The way he approached her was as the same way as in the Cinderella Man scene where Jim, in order to look at Mae’s eyes from the same high, bends his knee.

Ok, my task was achieved.

I kept being at the party just for a bit more, also because Babette, Lukas and Petra, who I was sharing the rented car with, didn’t know where I was at all.

Before leaving, I stamped a big and clean kiss on the body guard boss’ chick, thanking him, and telling him: "You see, I behaved as a good girl" and he told me: "Of course you did, I saw you, I let you in also because I’ve been seen you since this morning and I could see you’re a good girl"
Then we spent a little time talking about mine and his job and he told me he’s the body guard boss of the film "A good year" in command on the other Russell’s personal body guards.
I said good bye to all the people I met there, then I went out...
walking on the clouds...
